How to Refill at ECO MKE

If you've been to our shop on S 2nd Street, you may have noticed that we do things a bit differently than other refillieries. We're here to break it down so you can walk in feeling confident! This post will tell you exactly what you need to refill with us step-by-step.

What Makes Us Different

We Do The Filling For You

When you walk into the shop, you might notice that there aren't any pretty glass bulk jugs out on the tables. That's because we have them all in the back! We are a shop that takes care of the refill process for you. We do this for a few reasons:

• less mess - less spills and drips for us and you to deal with.
• less intimidating - if you're new to this, we've got you covered.
• saves you time - instead of spending 15 minutes weighing and filling all your own containers, you can relax on the couch or browse the store.

We Have a Refill Menu

Because we have the refills and bulk goods in the back, our refill menu is where you can see exactly what we have and how much things cost. Most things are priced per ounce, but other items like our dishwasher tablets are priced per each one. We have a little bit of everything from all-purpose cleaner and hand soap to face serum and conditioner.

We Can Custom Scent Things

You may notice that a few of our items on the menu have an asterisk (*) next to them. These items come unscented, but can have an essential oil scent blend added to them! We currently offer lavender, mint & eucalyptus, and a citrus blend. When you place your refill order with one of those refills, we will ask if you'd like a scent added. Those three scents will always be on the menu, but seasonal and holiday scents may appear throughout the year.

How to Refill at The Shop

1. Choose Your Containers

There are a few options when it comes to containers. You can bring your own from home, purchase a new bottle or jar in the shop, or grab a free jar from our jar library. Any container works as long as it's clean and dry! 

2. Choose Your Products + Amounts

When you come up to the counter, let us know what you want, in which containers, and also the amount. If you bring in a larger container and only want it half full, we can do that for you. Want to try a product out and only want a couple ounces? We can do that too! That's the beauty of refilling. You don't have to commit to a full-sized brand new bottle of product if you don't want to, or you can stock up on the stuff you love.

3. Let Us Do The Filling

We weigh your containers in the back to get the tare weight, then we fill and scent your products, then weigh again to get the final weight. Unless you're buying a new bottle from us, all you pay for is the weight of the product. Feel free to browse the store while we get your order ready.

4. Pay For Your Products

When you're ready to checkout, meet us at the counter to pick up your refills and pay for your items. 

Some Things to Note

Want Refills? Try to Order Them First Thing

It helps us and you if you come to the counter and place your refill order right away so we can start working on it! If you wait until you're done shopping, that's okay too, but you might have to wait for us to get your order ready. Need help figuring out what you want? Ask us! We'll do what we can to make it as easy as possible. 

Containers Must Be Clean + Dry

Wet containers with water or leftover product are a breeding ground for mold and other icky things. To prevent any possible contamination, we ask that the containers you bring from home are clean and dry. If your container has a pump or sprayer that has a bit of product still in it, that is no problem. We want to do what we can to give you the best experience. 

Note: We may say no to certain types of containers if they appear to be porous or in poor condition or broken. We would hate to send your home with a leaky bottle filled with vinegar or soap.

Need a New Bottle? We Offer Prefills!

If you want to give our products a try and need a new bottle, we offer prefilled bottles and containers of many of our best sellers! You can simply grab these off the shelf instead of placing a refill order. Once your bottle is empty, you can bring it back to be refilled.

We are working on a potential bottle take back program that rewards you for bringing these back in, so stay tuned for that. (:

It's Not About Being Perfect

The goal of eco-conscious living isn't being perfect, it's about doing the best you can. If you forget your container at home, we. should have free jars available in our jar library. And if you're not ready to get into the world of refilling yet, we have lots of other incredible package-free products available to help you reduce your waste. There is no "one size fits all" way to being sustainable. Whether you're a seasoned refiller or are just dipping your toes into it, we're here to help!
